The 2020 cashew nut marketing campaign will record a volume of 902,000 tonnes against 800,000 tonnes planned, announced the government spokesperson, Sidi Tieméko Touré.
In the report made at the end of the Council of Ministers of Wednesday, August 20, 2020, he indicated that this increase in volume is due in particular to the closure of borders due to COVID-19 and to better control of leaks by land borders, better agronomic conditions and the effective implementation of a new statistical monitoring system.
The minimum farm gate price of 400 CFA francs / kg was approved for this purpose by the Government on the basis of a CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) reference price of 1,300 USD / tonne. The single exit tax (DUS) has been revised downward from 7% to 5% of the CIF price, in order to create the conditions for a peaceful campaign.
As of August 10, 2020, cumulative purchases are 740,714 tonnes, or around 93% of the initial forecast of 800,000 T. In addition, 620,000 tonnes have been unloaded in exporters' stores, of which 170,000 tonnes have been purchased by the GIE- GEPPA at the farm gate floor price of CFAF 400 / kg, or more than 27% of exporters' quantities.
The quantities unloaded in the local processing plants are 91,182 tons. Exports are 403,170 tons for an average FOB price of 721 CFA francs / kg, against 517,092 tons for an FOB price of 709 CFA francs / kg in 2019.
In addition, producers still hold 106,600 tonnes of raw cashew nut stocks and 56,000 tonnes are still held by buyers, or around 162,600 tonnes available in production areas.
For the completion of the 2020 campaign, the Council of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as all the ministers concerned to take the diligent measures for the removal of the products still held by producers.
The raw cashew nut marketing campaign was officially opened on February 6, 2020, with production forecasts of 800,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts, of which 100,000 tonnes should be purchased by local processing units.
